Arrived last night in Peten (there is a mark over the 2nd e that I can't find on my computer). We flew in a prop-jet (many of us had never flown on one- we loved the take off). Had a lovely dinner- swimming and now up for breakfast and drive to Tikal.
An amazingly HOT day in Tikal, but what a day! The temples are awesome (the real sense of the word)- everyone overwhelmed by the experience. Taryn left us to move on to Teachers College orientation - we will miss her thinking and care and love! INTERNET IS REALLY SLOW- will try and upload the rest of the photos tomorrow am. We leave for Livingston around 8:00 am - 4 hour drive and an hour boat trip. Everyone healthy and happy
Student Response:
This trip has greatly changed my view on culture. Seeing just exactly how the Mayan civilization had a purpose for everything they did was incredible. Their culture was ingrained into everything around them and what they built. These traditions carry on today as they represent it in their music and language. Seeing that culture is so deeply embedded into the animals, ground, religion, science, and people by just viewing their incredible temples was breath taking.
